Guru Vallabha Chaitanya
|| Sri Gurubhyo Namah|| Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj
Brief life story:
In Sanatana dharma, the spiritual progress has been classified four fold i.e. Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha. The final stage of moksha is only possible by the grace of Guru. Many philosophers compare Guru with sun who eradicates darkness, but this simile has its limitation since darkness again pervades after sunset. In case of Guru, the darkness of ignorance never pervades again on the pupil who has been blessed. This land of Bharat has been blessed for thousands of years, wherein great Maharihis, Rishis, Yogis and Siddhas have taken birth and lived here.
One of such great tapasvis and yogis was Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj. He was humblel, compassionate and selfless. He was a great spiritual Guru and was so humble that he never once flaunted his tremendous spiritual power.
Sri Krishnendra Guru who’s Samadhi is at Hubli (Karnataka) is believed to be the avatar of Sri Dattatreya. Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj is considered as another form of Sri Krishnendra Guru who has taken a human form again to guide devotees in their spiritual progress.
Childhood and early life:
Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj was born in Hosur, a small village in Taluk Shiggaon, District Haveri (Karnataka). He was born to a devout couple Sri Narasmiharao Kulkarni and Smt. Subhadra Kulkarni. He was born on ‘Champa shashti’ thithi in the year 1950. Since childhood, Sri Chaitanya Maharaj was more interested in japa and tapa. He loved and respected his mother very much. He, as a young boy utilizing his tremendous spiritual powers made his mother, while on death bed, to complete her pilgrimage to Kashi, Rameshwaram, Prayagraj, and other sacred places without physically visiting those places.
Though he completed his school studies successfully, yet his inclination was more towards spiritualism. He picked up a job in Harihar, but resigned early as his mission was to not earn livelihood but to enlighten the world. He was destined for a bigger purpose in life.
Spiritual journey:
He commenced his spiritual journey from Veerbhaktavarti Mutt in Old Hubli. He meditated for hours and at times for days continuously in Sri Arvind Guha (cave). He regularly visited Sri Krishnendra Guru Samadhi at Old Hubli and considered him as his spiritual Guru. This young Sri Vallabh Chaitanya had a desire to have the original photograph of Sri Krishnendra Guruji, which was not available then at Old Hubli. Sri Krishnendra Guru had resided in Kashi for many years and then had moved to Hubli. The question was who shall deliver the photograph from Kashi even if one was available? Meanwhile, one more great tapasvi Sri Basavarajendra Swamiji was in Kashi at that time. While he was meditating in Sri Trailang Swami Mutt at Kashi, he heard a voice ordering him to take his (Trailang swami) photograph to Hubli. The voice of Sri Trailang Swami also conveyed that a boy in Hubli would ask for his photo when he visits that town. The boy who asks for my photo at Hubli from you is also your shishya (disciple). Additionally the voice conveyed that I will reside in the body of that boy. As predicted by Sri Trailang Swami everything happened to the minutest detail. Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj accepted Sri Basavarajendra Swamiji as his Guru for the rest of his life. Sri Basavarajendra Swamiji accepted Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj as his Guru since Sri Trailang Swami resided in his body as ordained by the heavenly voice earlier.
Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj continued with his sadhana at Sri Neelkanth Mutt at Old Hubli and at Tapovan, Dharwad. He got the guidance and blessings of Sri Kumarswamy at Tapovan another great yogi and philosopher then. With the grace and blessings of all these great yogis, Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj started his Gayatri Mantra Japa. He performed crores of Gayatri Mantra Japa followed by Gayatri Yagnas. This japa and tapa not only enhanced his spriritual progress but also blessed him with miraculous powers. People started approaching him in hordes for his blessings and returned happily after their problems were solved. He advised (men, women and children ) who approached him to do Gayatri japa regularly. There has been a misnomer since long, that women must not do Gayatri Mantra Japa. Women who visited him frequently questioned this restriction to Sri Chaitanya Maharaj. To resolve this delicate problem, Sri Chaitanya Maharaj put this question directly to Sri Gayatri Mata herself. Sri Gayatri Mata in all her splendor appeared before Sri Chaitanya Maharaj, and conveyed in no uncertain terms that women can do her mantra japa. Sri Chaitanya Maharaj after this incident vociferously advocated that women could perform Gayatri Mantra Japa. His perspective was that when women do Gayatri Japa then the benefits are reaped by each of the family members. When each individual starts doing Gayatri Mantra Japa, then the whole country and world at large will get benefitted. The whole planet then will be peaceful , plentiful and prosperous.
Life mission:
Sri Chaitanya Maharaj established Sri Gayatri Tapobhumi Ashram in the year 2000. This serene ashram is situated on 8 acres of land, 22 km away from Hubli. This is located at Tadas Cross on Hubli Bangalore national highway. The life mission of Sri Chaitanya Maharaj was to spread the importance and power of Sri Gayatri Mantra Japa far and wide. To achieve this goal, he planned 24 Gayatri Maha Yajnas one each at a place across the country. Each Maha Yajna was to be performed by the people themselves after having completed one crore Gayatri Mantra Japa. Twenty three of these yajnas were successfully completed with lot of pomp and splendor. The devotees at each of these places were exuberant due to the presence and guidance of Sri Chaitanya Maharaj. Meanwhile, Sri Gayatri Tapobhumi at Tadas having the temples of Sri Gayatri Devi, Sri Ganesh, Sri Shannamukha and Sri Annaporneshwari Devi became very popular and thousands of devotees started visiting it. Free annadanam, medical checkup, goshala and school for poor children were started at Tapobhumi for socio-economic progress. These ventures for the public good have been growing by leaps and bounds every year. Various religious and social functions are conducted at Gayatri Tapobhumi throughout the year. Men and women, rich and poor, literates and illiterates of all caste and creed started visiting Sri Chaitanya Maharaj for his darshan and blessings. The visit of the devotees kept him so engaged that he hardly had any time for his own sadhana. Hence, he decided to perform tapas in Himalayas. He would retreat to Himalayas every year for couple of months for tapas. He stayed at Ganeshpur (Uttarkashi) amidst great yogis, sadhus and saints and continued his sadhana. He performed tapas at Himalayas for 12 consecutive years.
On 28th March 2011 he accepted sanyas, as this state would enhance his spiritual progress further. For devotees he was now a God in flesh and blood. Unfortunately, on 25th May 2016 Sri Vallabh Chaitanya Maharaj left for his heavenly abode. Before his final departure he meticulously directed his close disciples as to how to conduct the final 24th Gayatri Maha Yajna. Accordingly, Sri Gayatri Tapobhumi Charitable Trust and thousands of his devotees across the world performed the 24th Gayatri Maha Yajna at Tadas for seven consecutive days in the year 2018.
Sri Gayatri Tapobhumi Charitable Trust and Maharaj’s devotees as ordained have continued the mission of spreading the power of Sri Gayatri Mantra worldwide.
